About Me

Where it all started…

Hi, My name is Makenzie Funk. I am a mom of two little boys, a first responder wife, type 1 diabetic, and lover of all things health and fitness.

My story technically begins at the age of 7, when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. But I am going to jump forwards a bit to highschool where my journey truly begins.
All through highschool, I struggled with self esteem, as do so many girls at that age. Looking back, even at a young highschooler, I struggled with inflammation and wanting to lose weight and “look like everyone else.”
I grew up in a very health conscious and active family, so working out and watching what I ate felt natural for me. But, that quickly turned into an obsession.
Around the age of 17, I was introduced to crossfit. I quickly fell in love with the feeling of being strong. So, I continued to fuel my fire and ran with it. I started competing and continued to gain knowledge around lifting weights. Still, I wasn’t all that educated and was mostly coming from a place of hatred for my body. I also continued to struggle with being a bit overweight and not able to lose it.

Fast forward to college, I decided to take the time to really make some physical changes. I hired a random coach off of instagram, who put me on an insanely strict regimen for diet and working out, and I FINALLY saw changes. But, after a year of strict eating, overtraining, losing my period off and on, and uncontrolled diabetes. Although I lost a solid 30 lbs in a short amount of time and loved working out and adjusting my diet to one that was healthy, I knew there had to be a better way to go about it that didn’t make me feel like a walking zombie.

I switched my degree from psychology to kinesiology, got my personal training license, took class after class regarding nutrition, the science of building muscle, and overall the functioning of the human body and quickly realized I was massively undereating and over working out. I also learned so much in regards to hormone health and the importance of regulating my blood sugars for overall health.

It was until my first pregnancy in 2019 with my son, Wyatt, that I truly learned to love and appreciate my body in a whole new way. I learned just how important the quality of food was not only for my diabetes, but for my overall health as a female.

Over the last few years, I have worked to adjust my diet to one that is hormonally focused and I have seen tremendous health benefits including reducing my insulin needs by 25%-30%/day, weight loss, reducing inflammation, increased energy, better skin, and so much more.

I have been through the ringer when it comes to my health. It wasn’t until I truly dove into my hormone health and taking a holistic and nutritionally focused approach that I truly have seen a difference. My passion is now to share my knowledge with other women who are also struggling with autoimmune diseases, or maybe just feeling that they have symptoms for unknown reasons and want to dive into their hormonal health a bit more.

Either way, I am so thankful you are here and I cannot wait to help you reach your goals and feel your best <3

Xoxo,

Makenzie
